Police Present As Magodo Residents Protest Planned Demolitio

The estate management of Magodo Phase 2, Lagos State, have ordered the closure of the estate gates in protest against the planned demolition of property in the estate.

It was gathered that over 50 policemen have been stationed around the estate.

According to PUNCH, the policemen were said to have escorted suspected land grabbers and members of a family who invaded the estate to claim possession of a property.

The said family were said to have led the policemen to the estate to execute a Supreme Court judgement.

The judgment was about to be executed with a bulldozer, when the estate management ordered a closure of the gate. It was claimed that it took the intervention of the state Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu before the gates were reopened. The Inspector-General of Police, Baba Usman, also promised to withdraw the policemen.

Bajo Osinubi, the Chairman of the estate claimed that despite the governor's intervention, the policemen had remained in the estate. He added that the residents have been living in fear, with the policemen moving round with weapons in the estate.

The Lagos State Government has described the invasion as unwarranted and vowed to prosecute those involved in the invasion.
