Police Retirees Protest Unpaid Pension, Other Entitlements A

Retired men of the Nigerian police force from across all states in Nigeria took to the National Assembly on Tuesday to protest their unpaid pension, other entitlement among others.

The protesting retired officers from across 27 states stormed the National Assembly displaying placards with various inscriptions such as;

'NPF pension defrauding police retirees, SOS,'

‘Police officers are dying in penury under the contributory pension scheme,’ 

‘CPS is a death sentence against police,’ among others.

One of the men whose name was not given stated that he served the force for 28 years. During the course of his duty, he visited all the 36 States in Nigeria.

According to the retired 'forceman';

"I was transferred from one state to another as a mobile police officer.

"Nothing has been given to me for all my sacrifice and service.

" I am now 80 years old and can not afford the basic things of life, like clothing, food and maintaining my family.

One of the protesters revealed that why they ought to be paid as pension was 80 percent of their last salary, however they only get 25 percent.

It was gather that they have previously expressed their grievances by writing to the Presidency and the National Assembly for help to no avail.

According to the retirees, the lack of response is the reason they have staged a protest.

They called on the National Assembly to use it's power to help them.
