The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a statement condemning the actions of Habeeb Okikiola, a popular singer who goes by the name Portable.
The ‘Zazu’ crooner had a run-in with policemen on Tuesday when they stormed his club to apprehend him following a complaint lodged against him.
A video of the moment where Portable resists the arrest while declaring his link to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has since gone viral.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, released a statement on Twitter saying that Portable’s behavior is criminal and punishable under the laws of Nigeria.
The NPF will take all necessary steps to investigate his actions and ensure that he is prosecuted for any criminal activity he may have committed depending on the severity of the offence.
The statement added that the police will not condone any unruly act, assault, or attack on its officers who are on lawful duty and called for respect for law enforcement agents who perpetually take the risk of maintaining law and order and fighting crimes and criminality in the society.
