Polyamorous: Why Willow Smith Says It Doesn't Mean Having Multiple Sex Partners

Willow Smith has shared her own definition of the word 'Polyamorous', stating that contrary to popular belief, it doesn't involve having multiple sex partners.

The 20-year-old daughter of Hollywood veterans Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith made the remarks during an appearance on the Red Table Talk on Wednesday, April 28, 2021.

Willow opened up about being polyamorous and defined it as being in more than one intimate relationship at a time.

She said, "With polyamory, I feel like the main foundation is the freedom to be able to create a relationship style that works for you and not just stepping into monogamy because that's what everyone around says is the right thing to do.

"So, I was like, how can I structure the way that I approach relationships with that in mind? Also, doing research into polyamory, the main reasons why monogamous relationships - or why marriage - why divorce happens is infidelity."

Speaking further, she said she was introduced to consensual non-monogamy "through kind of a non-sexual lens", emphasizing that having more than a partner at a time doesn't mean she is sexually active.

"In my friend group, I'm the only polyamorous person, and I have the least sex out of all my friends", she stated.

This is not the first time Willow Smith has hinted at being polyamorous; she had broached the subject in 2019 (also in an episode of the Red Table Talk) where she mentioned that she could be "polyfidelitous" with one man and one woman.

"I'm not the kind of person that is constantly looking for new sexual experiences", she had said. "I focus a lot on the emotional connection and I feel like if I were to find two people of the different genders that I really connected with and we had a romantic and sexual connection, I don't feel like I would feel the need to try to go find more."
