Pope Francis Arrives In South Sudan On Three-Day Visit

Pope Francis on Friday afternoon arrived in South Sudan on a three-day visit to promote peace and reconciliation.

The Pope's visit to the youngest country is anticipated to attract considerable worldwide interest, throw a spotlight on it, and soothe and inspire the South Sudanese people.

Salva Kiir, the president of South Sudan, greeted the Pope when he arrived at the airport in Juba.

When Pope Francis said goodbye to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, he officially concluded the first leg of his two-nation 40th Apostolic Journey abroad.

From January 31 to February 3, the Holy Father paid a visit to the DRC. Pope St. John Paul II, who visited the country of Central Africa in 1980 and 1985, was preceded by him.

More than a million people gathered at Ndolo Airport for the Pope's Mass, demonstrating the country's enthusiastic reception of him.

Bishops from the nearby nations, which have experienced unimaginable brutality and conflict, banded together in support of Pope Francis.

According to the Vatican News, the Holy Father asked the country to forgive others, themselves, and their history, arguing that Jesus would offer them the opportunity to start anew.

He encouraged them to be "missionaries of peace" and to live out "a great amnesty of the heart."

The Pope shared words for those calling themselves Christians but are engaged in violence, telling them to "lay down the arms, and welcome mercy."

In addition to speaking to the government, civil society, and diplomatic corps of the nation during his courtesy visit to President Felix Tshisekedi, Pope Francis also addressed the youth, bishops, clergy, and religious, consecrated men and women.
