Nine People Killed In Civilian Plane Crash In Port Sudan
A plane crash in Sudan's coastal city of Port Sudan has killed at least nine people.
"A civilian Antonov plane crashed today at Port Sudan Airport as a result of a technical failure, killing nine people, including four military personnel.
"One child survived the crash," the Sudanese army said in a statement.
The crash occurred 100 days after fighting erupted in Sudan on April 15 between the army and the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group in Khartoum and states in western Sudan.
Port Sudan in the Red Sea state, located on the country's eastern coast, is one of the cities under the control of the Sudanese army since the war began.
The only airport in the country is in Port Sudan, making the city a vital transit point for much-needed foreign aid.
According to a conservative estimate, the war has killed at least 3,000 people in Sudan.
