Portugal Record Biggest Win After Thrashing Luxembourg

Portugal on Monday night recorded their biggest international win after thrashing Luxembourg 9-0 to maintain their 100 per cent start to their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign.

Cristiano Ronaldo missed the game through suspension, yet Roberto Martinez's side produced a dominant display to lead 4-0 at half-time.

Goncalo Inacio and Paris St-Germain forward Goncalo Ramos scored two goals apiece to put the the home side in complete control.

Diogo Jota fired home a fifth after the break, while Ricardo Horta got a sixth with 20 minutes left before Jota slotted in a seventh.

Burno Fernandes then capped his hat-trick of assists with a well-taken goal late on and Joao Felix completed the rout.

The result makes it six wins from six since Roberto Martinez became Portugal's head coach in January when he replaced Fernando Santos.

Portugal remain atop in Group J standings and will qualify for next summer's Euro 2024 in Germany with three games to spare if they beat second-placed Slovakia at home on October 13 and third-placed Luxembourg lose away at Iceland.
