The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says the poor electricity supply in the country is due to a shortage of gas supply to power firms adding that the electricity supply challenge would be resolved soon.
TCN disclosed this in a statement on Monday noting that only three power generation companies (GenCos) are currently operating without gas supply shortage.
“TCN reported the poor gas supply to power stations a few weeks ago, this has persisted to date, consequently reducing the quantum of electricity transmitted to the eleven distribution companies and other point load electricity consumers across the nation,” the company said.
“The affected thermal power plants are; Geregu Gas, Geregu NIPP, Sapele NIPP, Olorunshogo NIPP, Olorunshogo Gas, Guardian, Alaojl NIPP, and Omotosho Gas.
“Other power generating stations also experiencing low gas supply include; Delta II and IV, Okapi, Egbin Power Plant, Independent power and Paras Energy.
“Presently, only Shell (Afam VI), Odupani IPP and Azura are operating without gas supply shortage.
“TCN management has commenced discussions with the management of NNPC and some selected power plants and is receiving a positive response from NNPC. TCN management is hopeful that the gas supply situation will soon be resolved.” the statement said
