Pregnant woman abducted in Ogun

Suspected kidnappers, on Thursday, abducted a pregnant woman, Raheemat Ogunbunmi, in the Oke Lantoro area of Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

The incident was confirmed by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Omolola Odutola, who informed reporters that the victim's husband, Lateef Ogunbunmi, reported the abduction at the Kemta Divisional Police Headquarters.

According to the police, Raheemat was taken by her abductors after boarding a taxi on her way to the State Hospital in the Ijaiye area of the town.

SP Odutola assured that efforts are underway to rescue her unharmed and to apprehend the kidnappers.

Raheemat, a 32-year-old woman, is due to give birth soon. Her husband, Lateef, revealed that he received a text message on WhatsApp informing him that his wife had been kidnapped.

The PPRO detailed the report, stating, "The incident was reported to us by the victim’s husband, Lateef Ogunbunmi, who received a text message from the kidnappers shortly after his wife boarded the taxi. Earlier in the day, around 10:20 AM, his heavily pregnant wife, Raheemat, left their home to go to the State Hospital in Ijaiye for her scheduled delivery."

“However, at 12:37 pm, Ogunbunmi received a WhatsApp message stating that his wife had been kidnapped by an unknown person she had boarded a taxi with.

“The message mentioned that she had been moved from the taxi to another car, which was not described.

“The abductors were reported to be armed with guns and knives", Police added.

The police are actively investigating and working towards a swift resolution to safely recover Raheemat and bring the perpetrators to justice.
