Presidency Retracts Statement On Tinubu Being First African Leader To Ring Nasdaq Bell

Presidency Retracts Statement On Tinubu Being First African

The Presidency has retracted its prior claim that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was the first African leader to ring the closing bell at New York's National Association of Securities Dealers Automatic Quotation System (NASDAQ).

Tinubu's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, indicated in a statement on Friday that the Presidency made the assertion mistakenly based on information provided by a third-party event organiser.

“We have since found out that this information was/is incorrect as a former African leader has indeed had the privilege.

“This error is sincerely regretted", Ajuri Ngelale stated.

According to the Presidency, President Bola Tinubu became the first African leader to ring the NASDAQ closing bell.

Ngelale stated on Thursday that the president was invited to the world's second-largest stock exchange in recognition of his relentless global campaign to aggressively encourage foreign direct investment into Nigeria.

He stated that the President did not miss the historic opportunity to openly forward his foreign investment push while standing in front of financial markets at the famed stock exchange.
