President Buhari Addresses Adesina's Re-election, Promises S

President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the re-election of Akinwumi Adesina as the President of Africa Development Bank (AfDB) a month after Adesina was accused of abuse of office which led to series of probe into his activities in the bank.

AllNews had reported that Adesina was re-elected for a second term which will end in 2024. Adesina secured unanimous votes after returning unopposed. His re-election had been delayed by the accusations made against him by a whistleblower and the probe that followed.

After his re-election on Thursday, President Buhari said Nigeria will support Adesina through his second term of five years. Recall that President Buhari had spoken against the independent Probe which the United States demanded after the US faulted the internal probe conducted by AfDB's ethics committee.

While addressing Adesina's re-election, President Buhari said, "I congratulate @akin_adesina on his re-election for a second term in office as President of the @AfDB_Group. It is a well-deserved victory. I have no doubt that in this second term Dr. Adesina will accomplish even more of his lofty vision for the Bank.

"I thank the African Union for its early endorsement of Dr. Adesina, and also thank the shareholders of the bank who worked tirelessly for his re-election victory.

"Let me reiterate my earlier pledges of the full support of the Nigerian government to ensure a successful second term for Dr. Adesina. I pray that the Almighty God will continue to strengthen him and his team to deliver even greater development to the African continent." Buhari said.
