President Muhammadu Buhari has finally approved the appointment of Sunday Thomas. He had been acting as substantive Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive of National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) since July 2019.
Confirming the approval, Bashir Ahmed, the Special Assistant on New Media to President Buhari tweeted, "President @MBuhari approves the appointment of Sunday Thomas as the substantive Commissioner for Insurance/CEO National Insurance Commission (NAICOM)."
Thomas was appointed on July 31 to replace Mallam Mohammed Kari, the immediate past acting commissioner for the Commission. Kari completed a four-year tenure but the Federal Government didn't renew his appointment.
Before his appointment as the Commissioner for Insurance/CEO, National Insurance Commission, Thomas was formerly the Director-General (DG) of the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) in 2010.
Afterwards, Thomas was appointed Deputy Commissioner in charge of technical matters by President Buhari in April 2017. Thomas has over three decades of experience in the industry as an operator and regulator.
