President Buhari Cancels Zamfara Trip Over Bad Weather

Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has on Thursday cancelled his scheduled visit to Zamfara State.

In a video clip released especially to appease the Zamfara people, President Muhammadu Buhari said the hazy weather makes it impossible to fly to Zamfara.

In a statement later released on the video by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina on Thursday, Buhari said it pains him that he could not make the trip.

“I understand how you feel about this development but I know that you will agree with me that Allah knows best. I particularly sympathize with your Governor, Bello Matawalle and his cabinet who have put everything in place to visit a successful one,” said the President.

He also announced that he had directed security agencies to sustain the onslaught against terrorists, restrict cross-boundary infiltration and all unauthorized access to the goldmines in the state.

Buhari added that the Federal and Zamfara State Government are working to ensure that peace returns to all parts of the state in the shortest possible time and he urged all citizens to cooperate with, and support in all ways,

Meanwhile, Governor Bello Matawalle said that he and President have spoken and that he apologized to the people of the state.

The Governor also promised that Buhari would visit the state next week and the fixed date would be communicated in due course.

“Some of the security chiefs are currently in Katsina but can’t fly to Zamfara for the same reason. Based on this, we are extending our apology to the good people of the state for the postponement for reason beyond our control. We thank Mr President for his love for the state," he said.

President Buhari was in Sokoto earlier today where he commissioned BUA's 3 million metric tonnes cement plant in the state.

The President was accompanied by the Governor of Sokoto State, Retired Honourable Aminu Waziri Tambuwal; Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefele; Chairman of BUA Group, Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabi”u and Chairman of Max Air, Alhaji Dahiru Bara’u Mangal, among others.
