The Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development Ismaila Abubakar made the announcement in Abuja on Thursday, June 23rd 2022.
AllNews Nigeria previously reported that President Buhari withdrew Nigeria from all competitions with immediate effect in May.
The decision was based on the need for a revamping of the sports from the grassroots level.
According to the statement by the Perm Sec. the ban was reversed due to an appeal by the country's basketball federation (NBBF) signed by Mr Musa Kida.
He added that the appeal was strongly backed by stakeholders, former Nigerian international basketballers which helped trigger the reversal of the ban.
Sunday Dare, Minister of Youth and Sports Development, also confirmed the removal of the ban, saying that it would help allow the sport to be vamped and thrive.
Nigerian teams can now participate in all forms of Basketball competitions going forward.
