The President of Haiti, Jovenel Moïse has been assassinated.
Claude Joseph, the country's interim Prime Minister made the announcement on Wednesday through a press statement.
Joseph said the president was attacked by a group of people in his private home.
The identity of the killers has not been ascertained.
The Prime Minister also said that the first lady was injured in the attacked and currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
The country has been battling the manace of gang violence and other issues.
The Prime Minister said the incident is unfortunate, "hateful and barbaric act."
The National Police and other security outfits had taken the situation under control.
Late President Jovenel Moïse had been in power since 2017.
