According to the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), a total of 45 journalists were killed worldwide in 2021.
The dead toll includes nine in Afghanistan. The country has the highest record of Journalists suffering the most. Mexico followed with eight, India with four and three in Pakistan.
The IFJ said in a statement on Friday that;
“While this year has a lower decrease of deaths recorded, it is a small comfort in the face of continued violence."
"Media workers are killed for exposing corruption, crime and abuse of power in their communities, cities and countries."
Also, two weeks ago, Reporters without Border gave a similar death toll to journalists, citing 46 killings and noting that it is the lowest recorded so far.
Aside from the killing of journalists, a non-profit Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) reported that the number of journalists behind bars reached a global high in 2021.
CPJ reported that 293 reporters were imprisoned worldwide.
