Prisoners Who Fled Edo Correctional Facility Rearrested

Eighteen (18) prisoners who escaped from two correctional facilities in Edo state have been rearrested by the police.

Recall that on October 19, hoodlums who hijacked the #EndSARS protests in the state coordinated two jailbreaks at the Oko correctional facility and Benin correctional facility.

For weeks, the demonstrations staged against the notorious defunct police unit, Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) across major cities were peaceful until protesters were attacked by security officials and the protests were hijacked by thugs.

Taking advantage of the protests, armed men broke into three Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) facilities in Edo and Ondo states while a similar attempt was foiled in Lagos State.

Over 2000 inmates escaped from both prisons during the jailbreak.

The state commissioner of police, Johnson Kokumo, made the news of the rearrest of the fleeing inmates known, during the parade of some suspects on Wednesday, November 18.
