A Federal High Court in Lagos has issued a production warrant for Nigerian singer Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley.

The temporary order directs the accused person to be brought to court to answer charges.

Naira Marley is facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on an 11-count charge related to conspiracy and credit card fraud.

During the recent court session, Naira Marley’s defence counsel, Olalekan Ojo, SAN, informed the court that the defendant was absent due to being detained by the police for interrogation in connection with the murder of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad.

Ojo requested an adjournment of the trial.

The prosecution counsel, Bilkisu Buhari, also requested the court to issue a production warrant to ensure the defendant’s presence on the next adjourned date.

Justice Oweibo granted both requests and issued a production warrant for Naira Marley.

The case has been adjourned until October 30, 2023, for the continuation of the trial.

Naira Marley was arraigned by the EFCC on May 20, 2019, on an 11-count charge related to money laundering and internet fraud.

The alleged offences were committed on various dates in 2018 and 2019.

The EFCC accused Naira Marley and his accomplices of using different Access Bank ATM cards to defraud their victims and possessing and using counterfeit credit cards belonging to others with the intent to defraud.

Naira Marley pleaded not guilty and was granted bail during previous court proceedings.
