PSG lead chase for Osimhen as Mbappé departure beckons

Ligue 1 champions PSG are in front of the queue for Super Eagles striker and current African Footballer of the Year Victor Osimhen, according to a transfer update given by Italian publication Il Matino.

Premier League clubs are seeking to sign the former youth international who was Serie A's top marksman last season for Napoli as they won the Scudetto for the first time since 1990 when they were captained by Diego Maradona to the title.

But the publication in its report claims that the interested parties namely Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United will not be able to compete on the financial and sporting fronts.

The departure of Kylian Mbappé who is expected to leave this summer will leave a massive space in the PSG attack but the wages freed up in the aftermath of that sensational move possibly to Real Madrid will leave the Paris billionaires with a great financial standing.

Chelsea are said to be keen to structure the payment of Osimhen's release clause said to be in the region of $150m and although are likely to offer him Champions League football, the Premier League title chasers are also linked with other world-class and in form strikers whose prices could be less prohibitive.

United are reportedly keen to offload several players like Marcus Rashford who interestingly has been linked to PSG and would be on the lookout for a new acquisition.

Mbappe was in the PSG squad that lost 2-3 to Barcelona on Wednesday night in the quarterfinal first-leg tie of the UEFA Champions League and fired blanks in the game.
