Public Affairs Analyst Wants Government To Make Satellite Effective In Nigeria

Public Affairs Analyst Wants Government To Make Satellite Ef

Barrister Temitope Omotayo

A Public Affairs Analyst, Barrister Temitope Omotayo has called on the Nigerian government to work towards ensuring that satellites are useful in carrying out major activities in the country.

In a recent interview on a popular radio station in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, Barrister Omotayo said existing satellite installations in Nigeria should be adequately monitored while new ones should be installed.

This according to him will help in solving some of the challenges facing the nation, most especially insecurity.

"The satellites can be used to monitor the bandits, boko harams and kidnappers who are terrorising Nigerians on daily basis.

"Government and citizens should not rely on MTN, GLO, AIRTEL, ETISALAT among other network providers in carrying out activities, which could be achieved easily through the use of satellite.”

Electronic transmission of election results

Furthermore, on electronic transmission of election results, Barrister Omotayo said the issue, which generated controversy at the National Assembly, stated that the satellite could cover the gap.

Barr. Omotayo urged the National Assembly to exercise caution in the process of amending the electoral Act, so that things that are not achievable and practicable are not included.

Calls for regional system of government

Speaking on the call by the Southwest Governors that Nigeria should go back to regional system of government, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) stalwart said it might not be realistic.

"It might not work because it is just one of the myriads of challenges the country is witnessing. People from Northern part of the country might not subscribe to it because it did not favour them.” According to him, "Instead of advocating for this, the best thing to do is the total overhauling of the nation's constitution".
