Public Varsity, NPower Launch New Agreement For Students

Public Varsity, NPower Launch New Agreement For Students

A public university in the USA, New Jersey City University (NJCU), and NPower, a national tech training nonprofit, have signed an agreement granting qualified NPower graduates the ability to transfer nine (9) credits towards Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity at the institution.

NPower creates pathways to economic prosperity by launching digital careers for military veterans and young adults from underserved communities.

In addition to New Jersey, NPower currently operates in California, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, New York, and Texas.

This new agreement provides NPower graduates another opportunity to further their education in one of the nation’s fastest-growing fields.

Launched in Spring 2020, the Cybersecurity program is housed within the College of Professional Studies and its Professional Security Studies department.

It is one of the few in the country to be designated as a center of academic excellence (CAE) in both cybersecurity and intelligence.

Additionally, the department is designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-DCE) by the National Security Agency in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

In December 2020, NJCU received the ASTORS Homeland Security Award for Cyber Defense, National Security, and Intelligence programs — the only institution of higher education in the nation honored by the organization.

Commenting on this new partnership Helen Kogan, NPower’s Executive Director, NY/NJ Metro Area said “It is a privilege and an honor to partner with NJCU. The University has housed our Jersey City training facility since 2015, and we welcome this opportunity for collaboration. NPower and NJCU share a mission of providing a diverse population of learners with an excellent education.”

“With a mission to move people from poverty to the middle class, NPower’s mission complements NJCU’s commitment to educating minds, nourishing souls, and lifting communities,” noted Dr. Michael Edmondson, the Dean of NJCU’s College of Professional Studies recently.

“We are proud to partner with a national nonprofit that has a successful track record.”

The NJCU Center for Cybersecurity is an interdisciplinary center for education, training, and research.

The center aims to provide current and future professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to compete and excel within the cybersecurity community. The academic foundation for students within the discipline is built through their degree program, certificates and research opportunities.
