Qatar defeats Jordan 3-1 to win Asian Cup Final

Qatar defeated a modest Asian side 3-1 on Saturday as hostility ensued in the Asian Cup with the usual favourites Australia and Japan beaten in the Championship.

It was Qatar that took the lead in the 22nd minute thanks to Akram Afif who opened the scoring from the Penalty spot.

Despite several attempts on goal from both sides to make a difference in the match, it finished goalless (0-0) at the break.

After the restart, Jordan's Yazan Al-Naimat scored in the 67th minute to level up the match for Jordan.

A few minutes later Akram Afif would net his brace and his side's second goal from the Penalty spot. He made it 2-1 in the 73rd minute of the game.

Both sides Qatar and Jordan continued to press for goals to seal the win in this Asian Cup final but it was Qatar that found the breakthrough goal in the contest.

Akram Afif then netted his third goal and hat-trick for his side in the 90+5 minutes of the match. He converted from the spot once again to give his side a two-goal cushion.

It finished 3-1 in favour of Qatar who now lifts the Asian Cup after beating Jordan in the finals on Saturday.
