Qatar to support education of 1,000 orphans in Borno

The Qatar Charity Organization has pledged to support the education of 1,000 orphans in Borno.

Ambassador Ali-bin Ghanem Al-Hajri of the State of Qatar to Nigeria announced this during a visit to Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno in Maiduguri on Thursday.

Al-Hajri emphasized Qatar's dedication to strengthening ties with Nigeria and expressed solidarity with Borno's recovery efforts from insurgency, noting its significant place in Islamic history.

In his response, Zulum thanked Qatar for supporting the state, recalling that the country supplied food items for displaced persons two months ago.

Zulum said the multi-million naira project to be executed by Qatar in Borno this year was timely as the state recovers from 15 years of insurgency that led to the death of over 300,000 people and displaced 3.5 million others.

He assured Qatar of the state government’s commitment to the successful execution of humanitarian projects that would bring succour to the people.

While in Maiduguri, the ambassador performed the ground-breaking ceremony for a school for orphans and presented a lecture at the Nigeria Arabic Language Village, Ngala.
