A period of national mourning for Queen Elizabeth II is underway as the Queen will be laid to rest on Monday, the day of her funeral.

As the whole world watches with bated breath as the late monarch is laid to rest, it becomes imperative to bring to the fore some of the key factors of the ceremony.

What time is the Queen's funeral?

The funeral will take place at 11:00 BST on Monday 19 September. It will be held at Westminster Abbey in London.

BBC added that the ceremony is expected to draw to a close just before noon when the Last Post - a short bugle call - will be played. A two-minute national silence will follow.

Who will wear a military uniform?

Buckingham Palace said that only working members of the Royal Family who hold military rank could wear uniforms marking the Queen's death.

This means King Charles, the Prince of Wales, Princess Royal and the Earl of Wessex will wear a military dresses.

The King has also requested that Prince Harry wear a military uniform at the vigil of the Queen's grandchildren.

Who will attend the funeral?

About 500 leaders and dignitaries from the UK and around the world will be gracing the event.

They include Belgium's King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain, as well as US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Japanese Emperor Naruhito, French President Emmanuel Macron, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are also amongst others.

How can I watch the funeral?

BBC reports it will be airing the funeral on BBC Television and available to stream on BBC iPlayer, with updates on the BBC News website and BBC Radio throughout the day.

Other networks are also expected to broadcast the event.
