Rain Washes Over 100 Houses In Damaturu

More than a hundred houses, shops, and other structures were washed away by rain on Monday following the heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds.

Confirming this to AllNews Nigeria, the Executive Secretary, Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Mohammed Goje said 5 persons have been confirmed dead, while more than 60 sustained various degrees of injuries.

Goje added that Governor Mai Mala Buni had earlier instructed that the agency remains on high alert following predictions by Nimet of possible heavy downpour forcast and heavy rain.

He added that they are still gathering statistics of the losses caused by the rain, and are still working towards securing a place to stay for those who lost their lives, adding that those whose homes were damaged would be compensated later.

Goje advised residents to always repair minor damages and ensure they clean their drainages to provide ways to rain water to move out of their committees.

The Executive Secreatry promised Governor Mai Mala led government's coontinued support to victims of similar crises, adding that more would be done in du cours.
