The Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has called on Muslims in the state to intensify prayers for peace of the state and Nigeria.
The governor made this known on Thursday in a goodwill message to mark the commencement of the Ramadan fasting.
He stressed the need for everybody to play their roles in finding new directions towards fixing Nigeria's problems.
Yahaya adminished the Muslims to embrace piety as demanded of them during the month-long fasting.
This was made available in statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, spokesperson to the governor.
“As one of the five pillars of Islam, Ramadan fast avails the Ummah a golden opportunity for spiritual rejuvenation and devotion through supplication and other acts of worship.
“We therefore must use this opportunity to pray fervently for our dear state and the nation as well as for those in authority as we collectively battle to combat the many socio-economic challenges facing our nation and humanity," he said.
The governor further expressed optimism that with prayers, commitment and patriotism of the citizens, the country will surely overcome its challenges and emerge stronger.
He also called on the Islamic clerics to preach the importance of peaceful coexistence during their Tafsir sessions and avoid anything that would jeopardize the peace enjoyed in the state.
“On our part, we shall continue to live up to our commitment of ensuring peaceful coexistence as well as guaranteeing security and wellbeing of the people," Yahaya added.
