Real Madrid will be sweating over the delay in the contract extension of their skipper Sergio Ramos as the Spaniard "says no" to Los Blancos one year contract extension along with Lucas Vazquez with top clubs across Europe on high alert.
AllNews understands that in terms of Ramos' renewal, the issue lies on 'how long' as the 34-year old defender may want more years for a secure future or in terms of finance as a one-year would still keep him in the same salary bracket - given the 10 percent pay cut at the club presently - the deal would not be much attractive to the veteran.
Lucas Vazquez, on the other hand, would have thought his Madrid time is coming to an end with less time of play but his recent form could have earned him the contract talks and he would want to squeeze the best he can from the deal.
Both players' contracts expire by 30th June and now, they are free to start negotiating their future with any team.
Ramos's case is getting more attention than Madrid would want as he would be a great addition to any team he joins despite his age and Madrid would not want to lose him to a team participating in the Champions League as that would not just drop their own chances of winning it but increase a rival's chances.
Real Madrid despite knowing this is not bulging as they are more prepared to over Ramos a new contract on a yearly basis rather than a full 3-4 year stretch and a significant rise in his paycheck.
This stance may not be because they have little respect for the skipper but as a result of the COVID-19 economic constraint.
The President has been more realistic than most club presidents that COVID-19 restrictions which have hindered fans into the stadium and other income affecting measures have seen clubs revenue take a nosedive and thus new measures should be taken.
