Ramsdale Must Fight For Arsenal To Start In Goal — Raya

David Raya says Aaron Ramsdale must "fight for the team" to start in goal after displacing the England goalkeeper for Arsenal's No 1 shirt.

Ramsdale's run as the Gunners first-choice keeper was abruptly ended on Sunday when manager Mikel Arteta replaced him with Raya for Arsenal's 1-0 win at Everton.

He was also on the bench during Arsenal's first Champions League game since 2017, as Raya kept back-to-back clean sheets in the Gunners 4-0 demolition of PSV on Wednesday.

Asked on Thursday about Arteta's decision to promote him to the starting lineup, Raya said: "That's his choice, it's not my choice.

"If Aaron comes back in he needs to fight for the team and to win games.

"I think it's the first time that two top goalies are on the same team. That's just part of football now.

"The gaffer wants two top players for each position and that's what we have to work with."

The on-loan Brentford goalie, however, noted that Arteta has given him no guarantees over starting Arsenal's next Premier League game against Tottenham at the Emirates on Sunday.

"I played the last two games and I don't know what's going to happen on Sunday," he said.
