Randy, Dolly Parton's Brother, Dies Of Cancer At 67

Popular American Singer Dolly Parton shared a sad update with fans on Thursday, announcing the death of her younger brother, Randy Parton 67.

Dolly Parton 75, revealed that her younger brother died in a heartfelt statement on her website and social media, where she wrote “You Are My Christmas,” The sad news comes just two days after she celebrated her birthday.

"My brother Randy has lost his battle with cancer. The family and I are grieving his loss but we know he is in a better place than we are at this time. We are a family of faith and we believe that he is safe with God and that he is joined by members of the family that have gone on before and have welcomed him with joy and open arms," she wrote. 

Describing her brother, she said he is a singer, writer, and entertainer who sang and played guitar and bass in her band for many years and he has been the head of the Dollywood show since it inception in 1986.

"Randy was a great singer, writer, and entertainer. He sang, played guitar and bass in my band for many years. He headed his own show at Dollywood since it opened in 1986. He’s had several chart records of his own, but his duet with me on “Old Flames Can’t Hold A Candle To You” will always be a highlight in my own career," she added

“'You Are My Christmas', our duet on my latest Christmas album, joined with his daughter Heidi, will always be a favorite. It was his last musical recording and he shined on it just like he’s shining in heaven now."

He is survived by his wife Deb, his daughter Heidi, son Sabyn, grandsons Huston and Trent.

Dollywood is an amusement park jointly owned by entertainer Dolly Parton and Herschend Family Entertainment. In addition to standard amusement park thrill rides, Dollywood features traditional crafts and music of the Smoky Mountain area.

The park hosts a number of concerts and musical events each year, including appearances by Dolly Parton and her family as well as other national and local musical acts. It is also the site of the Southern Gospel Museum and Hall of Fame.

The theme park is the anchor of Parton's 150-acre Dollywood amusement destination, which also includes the 35-acre sister water park Dollywood's Splash Country, the 20-acre Dollywood's DreamMore Resort and Spa, and the 5-acre Dolly Parton's Stampede Dinner Attraction.
