Re-Opening Universities An Invitation To Mass COVID-19 Deaths - Omokri

Re-Opening Universities An Invitation To Mass COVID-19 Death

Reno Omokri, an aide to erstwhile President Goodluck Jonathan has warned that the move by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to re-open universities across the country will result in more COVID-19 deaths.

Issuing this warning in a tweet on Monday, Omokri suggested that the government introduce online classes instead of re-opening the higher institutions.

According to Omokri, universities across the country are not prepared for re-opening in the heat of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

Further pointing out that it was almost impossible for the COVID-19 protocols and guidelines to be observed if Universities are re-opened, the tweet by Omokri read:

"Reopening universities is an invitation for mass #COVID19 deaths. They are not prepared. #COVID19 protocols are almost impossible. Instead, government should introduce online classes via smartphones. Reopening is a disaster waiting to happen!" Omokri tweeted.

AllNews recalls that despite the increasing concerns on the rise of COVID-19 cases, NUC fixed January 18 for the re-opening of all Universities across the country.

It will be recalled that Universities were locked in March 2019 after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) embarked on an indefinite strike.

The strike was however followed closely by the COVID-19 lockdown which kept Nigerians indoor for about three months.

However, ASUU suspended its 8-month strike in December.
