Barcelona took an early lead in the 6th minute when Rahinpha's in-swinging corner was headed home by Christensen.

Real had two chances in succession throufg Luka Modric and Jude Bellingham but the Barcelona defence were up against the league leaders.

Carlo Ancelotti's men restored parity in the 18th minute when Lucas Vazquez got past Joao Cancelo with ease to dribble into the box but was tipped by Pau Cubarsi. Vinicious Junior stepped up and converted from the spot.

A long VAR check was required with half an hour played when it seemed that Barcelona had scored but it was not a goal according to the goalline technoloy.

The first half ended 1-1 but there was a worrying scene for Barcelona as Frank de Jong was carried off on a stretcher injured.

Yamal's dangerous cross forced a save from Lunin and the Madrid goalkeeper parried straight into Fermin's path. He poked home and Barcelona led at that point.
