The Nigerian Red Cross Society has stated that it has taken strategic steps to sustain complementary partnerships with the federal government and other organisations towards engaging Nigerians on the benefits of getting the COVID-19 vaccination.
The Operations Manager, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent, Hopewell Munyari stated this on Thursday in Abuja while flagging off the $350,000 COVID-19 Risk Communication and Community Engagement Campaign in five states of the federation.
The campaign is aimed at deploying relevant and available resources to engage communities across the five states towards convincing them on the need to accept the COVID-19 vaccines.
Munyari expressed confidence that the partnership will achieve 80% vaccination of Nigeria's population at the end of the campaign.
For his part, the Senior Manager, Social Impact Strategy of the Foundation, Uche Ogbonna, said it is worrisome that only sixty million Nigerians have received the COVID-19 vaccination, leaving one-third of the population at risk of contracting the virus.
He explained that the partnership with the Nigerian Red Cross and the International Federation of the Red Cross and Ted Crescent is grassroot based and targeted at clarifying several issues surrounding the reluctance of Nigerians in accepting the COVID-19 vaccines.
