Nigeria lost several politicians amongst other dignitaries in the year 2021.

Some died as a result of attacks by unknown gunmen, COVID-19 complications and other kinds of age-related sicknesses while others died of natural causes.

Former Deputy Senate President Ibrahim Mantu

Ibrahim Mantu, a former Deputy Senate President under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2007, died sometime in September 2021 in Abuja.

Former Labour Minister Akwanga

The former Minister of Labour and Productivity, Alhaji Hussaini Zanwa Akwanga, died in his home town of Akwanga on Friday, December 17, 2021, after a protracted illness at the age of 77.

The former minister was appointed in 2003 but was sacked by then President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Alhaji Sagir Hamidu was a 2023 governorship aspirant in Zamfara State who was shot dead by armed bandits on Sunday, November 21, 2021.

Gusau who was a 2019 gubernatorial aspirant under the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Zamfara state was shot dead by a suspected group of armed bandits along Abuja- Kaduna highway.
