Renewable Energy Essential To Closing Energy Deficit, Say Ex

Some experts on Wednesday stated that the use of renewable energy is essential to closing the energy gap in underserved and unserved communities.

They made this statement at a panel discussion at the currently taking place AFRICANXT 2023 in Lagos, with the theme: "Bridging the Energy Gap in Un-served and Under-served Communities in Nigeria."

Chukwuebuka Obimma, the founder of Dsuonenegry, claimed that more than 70 million people who live in rural areas lack access to electricity.

He said that the current energy supply gap in Nigeria was, at least, 180,000 MW, according to the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors.

"About 600 million people across Sub-Saharan African communities have no access to electricity.

"A renewable energy will, to a great extent, bridge the gap of un-served and under-served areas,” he said.

As a result of the importance of rural areas to society, he said that significant financial resources should be invested in collaboration with local authorities.

According to Damilola Asaleye, chief operating officer of Ashdam Solar Co. Ltd., there are misunderstandings regarding solar energy, particularly that it is expensive.

“Generally, energy is expensive, but the money paid on solar energy can be gotten back within three to five years,” she said.

Asaleye emphasised the importance of raising awareness, educating people, and advocating for the use of safe, economical, clean, and sustainable energy.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the current AFRICANXT, which is taking place from February 6 to February 10, has the following theme: Cooperate. Collaborate. Innovate. Ensuring Africa's Prosperity Through Unlocking Our Potential.
