Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has appealed to the incoming administration to show mercy to former deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, who were recently convicted for organ trafficking in the UK.
In a tweet, Omokri said he does not condone their actions but empathizes with their situation, adding that he hopes the Almighty provides relief to the Ekweremadus.
He called on the Nigerian government not to abandon the couple and leave them to rot away in prison, stating that they are not bad people but were fated with an unfortunate situation to which no one can say how they would have responded.
“I do not support what Ike Ekweremadu and his wife did. But I empathise with them.
“May God never permit me to be in the same position. I do not know what I would do in such circumstances. May the Almighty provide relief to the Ekweremadus. In Yeshua's Name.

“They were just fated with an unfortunate situation, to which nobody can really say how they would have responded. Please Nigeria do not leave them to rot away in prison,” Omokri tweeted.
