Reps Call for Government's Intervention on Bad Roads

The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to commence rehabilitation of bad federal highways.

The house-made the call on Wednesday adding that immediate attention be given to the roads affected by heavy rains recently.

The reps highlighted that the major roads include Onitsha-Owerri Expressway, Enugu-Porharcourt, Warri-Sapele, Kabba-Owerri, Ekiti roads and others in the country.

The lawmakers said the move was to rid motorists of hardships and risk of accidents on the roads.

The motion was moved by Hon. Toby Oke Chukwu and got the support of 80 others including the speaker of the house, Femi Gbajamiala.

While noting that the motion targetted specific roads, the house further amended the motion to include others.

The lawmakers also called for the investigation on the abandoned repair of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.

Other members supported the move to amend the motion to accommodate other roads in their constituencies include the minority leader, Ndudi Elumelu, Tajuddeen Yussuff, Fredrick Agbeni and Victor Nwokolo.
