Reps Commmitee Sanctions VCs Of UNICAL, FUTA, Others Over Au

There has been an indictment by the Public Account Committee of the House of Representatives against some Nigerian universities for failing to submit audited reports.

Some of the schools indicted include University of Calabar, Federal University of Technology Owerri, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, and the University of Agriculture, Makurdi.

Others are the University of Jos, University of Ilorin, and Federal University of Technology, Akure.

According to Oluwole Oke, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, the schools failed to submit their audited accounts for several years.

In the case of University of Calabar, the committee recommended sanctions against the former Vice Chancellor, former Bursars, the current Vice Chancellor, and his Bursar for failing to submit audited accounts to the Auditor General from 2012 to 2018.

The committee recommended sanctioning the former Vice Chancellor, former Bursar, and present Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, and handing them over to the EFCC for not submitting audited accounts for 2016-2018

As for the Federal University of Technology Owerri, the panel recommended sanctioning both the Vice Chancellor and the Bursar.

Additionally, 54 agencies were recommended for sanctions for rejecting the committee's invitation.

As a result, the committee urged the House to issue arrest warrants for the heads of the 54 agencies.

Among the prominent culprits identified by the committee were the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the Niger Delta Development Commission, and the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
