Reps Propose Introduction Of Anti-Corruption Courses In Pri

Members of the House of Representatives have decided to look into the inclusion of anti-corruption awareness courses and programmes in the primary and secondary school curricula.

This comes after the adoption of a motion by Rep. Aisha Dukku ( APC-Gombe) at plenary in Abuja on Wednesday.

The proposition was backed by the Speaker of the house Femi Gbajabiamila alongside Shehu Kakale and Musa Bagos representing Sokoto and Plateau State respectively.

The motion was made as part of the effort in fighting against corruption in the nation.

According to tp the motion, a meeting of stakeholders in the management and regulation sector will be convened to evaluate the need for inclusion.

“I am confident that this narrative can be changed within a relatively short time, through sustained efforts by government, civil society, religious organisations and citizens.

Dakku stated that the house was aware of successive governments' efforts at eliminating corruption in Nigeria.

She added that if the issue is not treated with urgency, the national sense of right and wrong would be destroyed.

The Rep noted that the absence of a deliberate national strategy has sabotaged the expected results of the fight against poverty.

She said if considered, citizens would from a young age identify the challenges and defeat corrupt practices wherever present.

Following the adoption of the motion, the Reps advised the committees on Basic Education Services and Legislative Compliance to ensure adherence.
