The House of Representatives has called on federal ministries, departments and agencies to consider giving first-class graduates automatic appointments.
The house made the call on Wednesday during its session.
Honourable Chinedu Emeka Martins noted that while Nigerian universities produce hundreds of first-class graduates annually, securing jobs have been difficult.
He stated that while the first-class remain jobless, those with lower classes and well connected enjoy the opportunity of being employed.
He said it was necessary to employ the first-class graduates so as to have breed of leaders who would move the nation forward.
He further said that giving automatic jobs to first-class graduates will motivate others to see that hardwork pays.
The House also urged the Education Ministry to liase with other MDAs to ensure that first-class graduates are employed.
The House further mandated its Committees on Tertiary Education and Services and Employment, Labour and Productivity to ensure compliance.
