Reps to probe incessant killings in Zamfara communities

The House of Representatives has called for a comprehensive investigation into the ongoing incidents of frequent violence and property damage in several communities within the Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The call for action came after Rep. Hassan Shinkafi (APC-Zamfara) introduced a motion of Urgent Public Importance during Tuesday's plenary session in Abuja.

Shinkafi highlighted that these attacks have occurred amidst a backdrop of economic hardship, further exacerbating the challenges faced by citizens.

He emphasized the significant distress inflicted upon residents of the affected communities as a result of these violent acts.

He said many shops, houses, motorcycles, and foodstuffs, among others, were lost to the attacks.

The lawmaker said two police officers attached to Zurmi Police Divisional Headquarters were killed in one of the attacks.

Adopting the motion, the House urged the Inspector General of Police to set up a tactical team to unravel the mystery behind the attacks and report to the lower chamber in two weeks.

The House also urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to urgently support victims in the affected areas with relief materials

The House urged the federal government to deploy more military personnel to the affected areas to stop further attacks.

The House urged the Committee on Defence, Police Affairs, Humanitarian Disaster Preparedness and Legislative Compliance to ensure compliance with the directive.
