The House of Representatives has mandated its committee on Tertiary Education and Services to probe the alleged multiple charges imposed on JAMB candidates.
The committee is expected to report to the house in the next four weeks upon completion of an investigation into the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and its accredited agents.
The JAMB would be probed following an allegation involving the imposition of multiple charges on processing and administration by the board and its accredited agents.
A lawmaker, Sergius Ose Ogun had raised a motion expressing displeasure over the charges which was adopted during the house's session on Wednesday.
Ogun explained that applicants were charged “Application for transfer, N7,000; change of admission letter with registration number, N5,000; application for correction of data (like date of birth, etc), N2,500; printing of JAMB result slip, N1,000; printing of JAMB admission letter, N1,000; change of institution/course N2,500 and retrieving of JAMB registration number N1,000," as reported Daily Trust.
The lawmaker added that the board is an examination body and not a revenue generation body for the federal government in line with the provisions of the constitution.
He, therefore, reiterated the need for the probe adding that the multiple charges may cause those unable to afford hardships that might cost them the examination.
