Reps vows to probe presidential fleet failures

The House of Representatives has decided to investigate the operational shortcomings of the presidential fleet, which resulted in President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima resorting to chartered flights for official duties.

This decision came after Rep Ahmed Satomi, APC-Borno, brought forward a motion during Wednesday's plenary session in Abuja, highlighting the urgent public concern surrounding this matter.

Satomi pointed out that President Tinubu had to utilize a chartered plane in April for his journey from the Netherlands to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to attend the World Economic Forum, raising significant safety concerns for the president's well-being.

He alleged a seeming laxity of the technical management of the fleet to keep the aircraft in optimal condition for the safety of the president.

He said this was in spite of the appropriations for the maintenance of the fleet by the National Assembly.

Adopting the motion, the House directed its committee on National Security to carry out an investigation to find out why the presidential fleet failed to perform optimally.

The House also gave the committee the mandate to invite the National Security Adviser, the commandant of the presidential air fleet and any other relevant officers of government.
