Rundown Of Events That Rocked Entertainment World In The Pas

The past week did not go without some occurrences in both Nigeria and the foreign entertainment industry. From the death of reggae maestro, Majek Fashek to Busola Dakolo’s update on her rape case with Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of Commonwealth Of Zion Assembly (COZA), to rape allegations against entertainers, to celebrities’ partaking in #BlackTuesday a protest against rape and police brutality. Majek Fashek’s Family Solicits Funds To Bring Home Singer’s Body

On Monday, June 1, the music industry was thrown into a mourning session after the “RainMaker” Majek Fashek passed on in New York, United States. His family is now seeking financial support to bring home his body for proper burial rites. His manager Omenka Uzoma, confirmed his death on the late singer’s official Instagram handle.

Fashek is best known in his home country for the 1988 album Prisoner of Conscience, which included the multiple award-winning single "Send Down the Rain".

Rape/Police Brutality: Nigerian Celebrities Partake In #BlackTuesday

Some Nigerian celebrities like Burna Boy, Wizkid, Timi Dakolo, Tiwa Savage, Mr Eazi, Davido, Toyin Abraham, Ice Prince, Small doctor, among others, joined in #BlackTuesday, a campaign against police brutality and rape. Recall that a 16-year-old girl identified as Tina, was shot by the police in the Iyana Oworo area of Lagos state and a 22-year-old undergraduate student of the University of Benin was allegedly raped and murdered in a RCCG branch in Edo state.

Rape Allegations: Uti Nwachukwu Petitions IGP

Days, after he was accused of rape by a lady, Kambili Korie, Big Brother Africa (BBA) season 5 winner, Uti Nwachukwu, petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, seeking a full-scale investigation into the matter. On Wednesday, Korie alleged that Uti is a bisexual and raped her in 2017. She also shared an alleged conversation that occurred between them, where the reality star apologized that he needed to act like a man that he is. However, Uti has now filed a petition to the IGP, stating that he finds it difficult to defend himself against someone he cannot identify.

Busola Dakolo Provides Fresh Update On Rape Allegations Against Fatoyinbo

Busola, a celebrity photographer and wife of singer, Timi Dakolo, has provided an update on her rape case with Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth Of Zion Assembly (COZA). Busola had accused Fatoyinbo of raping her when she was still a secondary school girl some years back.

Justice Oathman A. Musa of the High Court sitting at Bwari, Abuja, threw out the rape case filed by Busola against the pastor.

Justice Musa also awarded costs of N1,000,000 against Busola and maintained that the fine should have been ten times more because the court’s time was wasted.

However, on Thursday, June 4, the celebrity photographer shared a copy of the letter she received from the Inspector General of Police, which stated that investigations had been concluded and the case file had been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPP) for legal advice.

Kim Kardashian 'Considers Living In A Separate Home' As Kanye West

There were reports that reality TV show host, Kim Kardashian, will be moving away from her husband Kanye West’s home in a bid to save their marriage. According to The Sun UK, a source had made the revelation that "Things are tough between Kim and Kanye because they never normally spend this much time together, but she doesn't want a divorce, the last thing she wants is a divorce - especially because the public backlash after her second divorce was unbearable."

Peruzzi Apologises Over Comments 'Glorifying' Rape

Nigerian singer, Peruzzi, was during the week accused of rape. The lady, in a series of tweets, recounted how she accompanied a friend to visit the singer but ended up being raped in 2012. Jayamah22 aka Princess' story caught the attention of Twitter users, as this is the second time in 6 months when the “Majesty” crooner will be accused of rape.

Some Twitter users who came across the new lady’s post subsequently dug out a series of tweets where he “saw rape as a norm”Reacting to the old tweets in an open letter shared on his Instagram page, Peruzzi said the tweets were posted when he was younger and didn't know the implications of what he posted.

Nollywood: Movie Producer Exposed Over Sex For Roles

On Wednesday, June 3, two actresses Sharon Jatto and Oshevire Divine called out movie producer Victor Okpalan who they accused of demanding sex for roles.

In an Instagram post, Sharon recounted that she was just 17 when she reached out to Okpalan for roles, but he ended up demanding for sex.

Also on her Instagram handle, Divine laid the same accusation against the movie producer, while also sharing screenshots of their conversation.

After Preaching ‘No Means No’, D’banj Accused Of Rape By Talent Manager

While Nigerians are still campaigning against rape, Nigerian music star, Daniel Oyebanjo better known as D'banj, was accused of raping a young lady in 2018. D’banj had joined online protest against rape tweeting “#NoMeansNo We Need to Raise Our Sons right and Teach them to love and Respect Women. We Need Justice for Our GIRLS…Say NO to Rape, Racism, tribalism. Let us stop living in FEAR and HATE and start living in LOVE .???” Reacting, talent manager Benjamin Ese took to his Instagram to expose a celebrity who campaigned against rape but was once involved in the act. Later on Wednesday, Ese opened up that the Koko master raped one his friends in 2018, after she rejected an offer of N200,000 to have sex with him.
