Rundown Of Events That Rocked The Entertainment World In The

As usual, the past week did not go without some occurrences in both Nigeria and the foreign entertainment industry. From 2baba's new appointment to Hushpuppi's arrest, Dbanj's rape allegations to death of two veteran Nollywood actors, and Peter Okoye contracting COVID-19, AllNews brings you the major happenings, in case you missed them during the week.

2baba Gets UNHCR Appointment 


Legendary singer Innocent ‘Tuface’ Idibia, also known as Tubaba, was during the week, appointed the new ambassador for United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) ambassador.

According to the ‘African Queen’ hitmaker who made the announcement on June 23, the new feat will further deepen his support on the efforts of the UNHCR.

His post read: "Honoured and humbled by my appointment as a regional goodwill ambassador of UNHCR. Thanks for the recognition. This will no doubt deepen my commitment to supporting the effort of UNHCR personnel and volunteers who are on ground every day, working hard to provide support and hope to millions of forcefully displaced persons across the world.

Police Grill D'banj 

An Assistant Commissioner of Police at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Garki in Abuja quizzed Nigerian singer D’banj over rape allegations against him.

Recall that his accuser, Seyitan, some weeks ago took to Twitter to disclose that D’banj raped her in December 2018.

He failed to react until Tuesday, June 16, when he filed a lawsuit and demanded that Seyitan pays the sum of N100m within 48 hours or risk legal action, after which he allegedly got her arrested and intimidated her to delete the tweets and promote his music effort.

However, a report by The Punch says the singer had been invited for questioning on two different occasions.

According to a police source, “D’Banj has been questioned twice at the FCID, Abuja. He was questioned last week and also this week. We will leave no stone unturned as we investigate the matter."

Hushpuppi's Arrest and Moment Daddy Freeze Dined With Him


Nigerians on the micro-blogging platform, Twitter, dug out a clip of controversial on-air personality, Daddy Freeze, dining with Instagram celebrity, Hushpuppi, who was arrested by Dubai police over alleged fraud.

Hushpuppi known for his flamboyant lifestyle on social media platforms was picked by the FBI in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on June 10, 2020, after he was embroiled in a $35 million ventilator scam.

In the clip, showing both Hushpuppi and Daddy Freeze dining together in Dubai, the OAP who is widely known to be a religious and social critic, was seen shading Nigerians who slam the Instagram big boy on social media.

Hushpuppi had said his drivers’ monthly pay is more than that of a Nigerian commissioner.

Responding Daddy Freeze happily said “shey una dey hear, all of una wey you dey abuse Hushpuppi, his driver earns N700,000 month while you that abuses him on social media are doing houseboy work and earn N35,000 a month… instead make you beg Hushpuppi make he use your papa do driver ."

While reacting to the clip, Twitter users dragged him over his silence on the issue, just as they described him as ‘a greedy man’

However,  he later reacted, quoting bible verse of how Jesus Christ dined with sinners he also claimed he never knew Hushpuppi was into fraud.

Peter Okoye, Wife, Daughter Test Positive For Coronavirus 

Peter Okoye, a member of the defunct PSquare music group, his wife and daughter have tested positive for Coronavirus.

Okoye,  aka Mr P made the announcement in a tweet on Saturday afternoon.

In a clip shared alongside the tweet, the singer said he self-isolated in his residence for three weeks and he described such period as 'hell'

He stated that his daughter and 2 of his domestic staff also tested positive for the virus.

According to him, he self-isolated in his house but couldn't see his sick daughter in the same building and he communicated with his wife through video calls.

Nollywood Loses Two Veteran Acts

The Nigerian film industry has lost veteran Yoruba actors, Gbolagade Akinpelu, popularly known as Ogun Majek and Shafkat Adewoyin aka Madam Tinubu.

Ogun Majek was said to have died on Thursday, June 25, at his residence in Imalefalafia, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

Bolaji Amusan aka Mr Latin, the president Theater Arts and Motion Picture Producers Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) was said to have confirmed his death.

Madam Tinubu died on Tuesday, June 23 and was buried by 4pm same day, according to Islamic rites.

Also known for role as Mama Oni Mama in Funke Akindele’s ‘ỌMỌ GHETTO’, the late actress embraced acting as early as childhood days and was a dancer.

American Producer Steve Bing Commits Suicide


American producer and writer, Steve Bing, has at the age of 55 by suicide.

A report by TMZ said Bing died on Monday, June 22 after jumping from the 27th floor of a luxury apartment building in L.A.’s Century City neighborhood.

He was said to have suffered depression over lack of human contact during the quarantine.

Reacting to the death of the movie producer, who has contributed millions of dollars to nonprofit charities as well as Democratic candidates, Bill Clinton, in a tweet commended his enthusiasm.

Clinton wrote “I loved Steve Bing very much. He had a big heart, and he was willing to do anything he could for the people and causes he believed in. I will miss him and his enthusiasm more than I can say, and I hope he’s finally found peace.”
