Russia claims 28 killed in Ukrainian shelling of Lysychansk

Russia has reported a devastating attack on a bakery in the city of Lysychansk, located in the occupied eastern region of Luhansk, resulting in the deaths of at least 28 people.

Among the victims, the Ministry of Civil Defence, Emergencies, and Disaster Relief confirmed the tragic loss of at least one child.

According to Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukrainian forces struck the bakery using the US-supplied High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS).

Zakharova claimed that "dozens of civilians" were inside the building at the time of the attack.

Russia has demanded swift and unequivocal condemnation from international organizations in response to the incident. However, Ukraine has yet to issue an official statement regarding the shelling.

The deadly attack adds to the grim toll of the conflict in eastern Ukraine, where the frontlines have remained relatively static for nearly two years.

Despite the lack of significant territorial shifts, violence persists, with both sides engaging in deadly skirmishes even during the winter months.
