Russia Not Invited As European Leaders Gather In Prague

Russia isn't invited as leaders from about 44 European countries are gathering to launch a “European Political Community".

The gathering is to boost security and economic prosperity across the continent.

Thursday’s meeting in the Czech capital, Prague, is taking place amid the backdrop of Russia’s war in Ukraine, which began on February 24.

And also as pressure builds to allow Ukraine to join the European Union.

The summit involves the 27 EU member countries, aspiring partners in the Balkans and Eastern Europe, as well as neighbours like Britain – the only country to have left the EU – and Turkey.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said; “This meeting is a way of looking for a new order without Russia.

"It doesn’t mean that we want to exclude Russia forever, but this Russia – Putin’s Russia – has not a seat.

“Unhappily, you cannot build a security order with Russia. Russia is isolated,” Borrell said.
