Rwandan Newlyweds Arrested For Breaking COVID-19 Rules, Spen

A newly wedded couple in Rwanda was forced to spend their first night as man and wife in a stadium after being arrested for breaking COVID-19 rules in the country.

Also apprehended were 60 attendees of the occasion at the Le Printemps Hotel in Gasabo District during the course of the wedding reception. They were all taken to an empty stadium where they had to observe social distancing so as to avoid spreading the virus.

The Finance and Administration Minister of the Hotel Le Printemps, Harerimana Gasana Jean de Dieu, expressed disappointment over the violation of the coronavirus rules by his customers because they had come for a regular meal and had later chosen to be part of the wedding.

Traders and Rwandans, in general, were warned by Kimironko Sector Executive Secretary Umuhoza Rwabukumba to refrain from violating COVID-19 regulations, telling them that the consequences would be painful.

He said, "We are always people to abide by the COVID-19 prevention guidelines... everyone knows the consequences. We have set up a community-based approach to fight this epidemic. We have groups of people traveling to different parts of our sector to ensure that the regulations are being followed well."
