The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has deported hundreds of Rwandans who arrived in the country in a bid to escape the COVID-19 vaccination in their country.
Roger Ntambuka, the administrative head in the southern island of the country said on Thursday:
"All Rwandans staying illegally on the island of Idjwi bordering the DRC and Rwanda were deported to their country on Thursday morning."
Earlier on Wednesday, the Rwandan government had said that "A handful of Rwandans had left for neighboring countries claiming to be against vaccination."
"Most of them are in the process of returning, thanks to bilateral cooperation, including those who went to the Island of Idjwi."
The Rwandans had arrived in small groups and had settled in two villages claiming they were fleeing from the mandatory Covid-19 vaccination imposed in their country.
