Ryan Mason: 29-Year Old Interim Coach Of Tottenham As Replacement For The 'Special One'

Ryan Mason: 29-Year Old Interim Coach Of Tottenham As Replac

Former England midfielder, Ryan Glen Mason was called on Tuesday to replace Jose Mourinho and takes over the reins of White Hart Lane as an interim coach possibly till the end of the summer of 2021.

Tottenham Hotspur is not a 'sacking team' -- they are quite patient with coaches despite poor stats but it appears they are changing recently with the dismissal of Mourinho with just two seasons at the club without a trophy.

Attention is drawn to Ryan who is not even 30 yet, which in football terms should signal the twilight of a professional footballer's career.

Yet, Spurs did not appoint someone who has not kicked the ball before nor someone who does not know the club's culture.

Football Career

Mason is a former professional footballer who played as a midfielder and spent all his playing days in England and France.

He broke through Tottenham's youth ranks and made his senior debut in 2008 -- signing both a professional contract with the club and featuring in the group stages of the UEFA Cup in November of the same year.

During the 2008-09 season, he finished at the top of the scoring chart of the academy with 29 goals in 31 matches helping Tottenham finished second in the Premier Academy League.

As most club would showcase him, give him confidence and playtime, he was sent out on loan to Yeovil Town.

Playing time and fame he did get especially after scoring a long-range strike for Yeovil Town which earned them a draw. The goal was nominated in BBC Sport's Goals of the week.

This made Yeovil extend his contract by three months and later till May 2010 but with his growing prowess, Tottenham recalled him by March 2010 after 28 games and 6 goals for Yeovil.

His recall took a different turn as he was loaned out again, but this time to a Championship side, Doncaster Rovers on a two-month loan deal.

From then on, Mason was loan time after time to Doncaster, Millwall, Lorient (France) then Swindon Town before being eventually sold out to Hull City for 13M euros in the 2016 season.

His career was about getting back on track with Hull City not until he suffered a fractured skull when he clashed head with then-Chelsea, now Crystal Palace centre back, Gary Cahill.

He underwent a successful surgery but was out for the rest of 2017 in rehabilitation but he could not return to playing with risks and finally hung his boot in February 2018.

Coaching Career:

It is quite understandable that he returned to Tottenham to start his coaching career since he learnt how to play football at the same source.

He joined Tottenham in April 2018, then he was made coach of the Under-19 UEFA youth league team in 2019 then promoted to head of player development for U-17 to U-23 players in 2020.

Be it luck or fortune, After the dismissal of Jose Mourinho, Ryan Mason 29, was appointed to lead Tottenham for now till the end of the season with a final insight against Pep Guardiola Manchester City and see if he can finish in the top 5-spot in order to qualify for European football or lead Tottenham in the new European Superleague.
