Rybakina Triumphs Over Sabalenka, Wins Maiden Indian Wells T

Elena Rybakina won her first Indian Wells women's title after beating Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets in the California desert on Sunday night.

The Kazahk went on to win 7-6 (13-11) 6-4 to avenge her defeat in the Australian Open final in January.

It took a 78-minute opening set for Rybakina to stay on course to win the title against Sabalenka who stormed into the final and looked set to take control of proceedings but got plagued by her serving issues as she hit 10 double faults in the first set alone.

The proceedings of the second set were considerably quicker as Rybakina built on her advantage by breaking Sabalenka to love in the first game of the second set, then broke again to move to the cusp of victory at 5-2.

At this point, the Belarusian suggested one last twist by breaking back in the next game but Rybakina eventually served out victory on her first match point to be crowned champion since her surprise Wimbledon triumph last summer.
